Founder and President

John grew up in Bellport, New York, the son of John F. Derby. He credits his entrepreneurial spirit and motivation to his father who started the family run Derby Brothers flooring company in the 1940’s. John’s experience in the janitorial supply industry began with sales at major suppliers such as Amoco Chemical, Kimberly Clark and Fort Howard Paper Company. After years of learning details of products and honing his business skills, he decided it was time to grow. He opened Emerald Island Supply Company in 1987. John has been there every step of the way to watch it grow and develop into the wonderful company it is today staffing it with the very best professional employees he could find. Aside from toilet paper, rags and floor care products and machines, John enjoys playing golf, riding his Harley Davidson and rice pudding.

Thomas F. Derby

Like his brother, Tom grew up in Bellport, New York and gained the same wonderful encouragement and motivation from his father John F. Derby, to succeed in business. Tom’s early career involved Project Management for Seamans in the Boston area of Massachusetts. In 2000, Tom made the decision to join efforts with John and bring a higher level of management to Emerald Island Supply Company. With a keen financial and business sense, Tom has helped grow the business and continues to provide the very best service to our customers. Oh, by the way, Tom rarely turns down a round of golf or a good book.

Mark has been an Emerald Island Supply team member for over twenty years.  Mark has experience in many areas of the Jan/San business, and services various types of customers which include schools, fire departments, health care facilities, commercial businesses and cleaning contractors.  Marks hands on product training and a dedication to understanding the needs of his customers have allowed him to achieve a steady growth in sales over his tenure.  Customer Service remains a priority for him.  Mark is married and has one adult son.  When not working, Mark enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and playing golf.

Tim’s Jan/San career started in the maintenance business 33 years ago.  He has hands-on experience in every aspect of cleaning and maintenance.  Tim is an authorized service technician for Minuteman International, Clarke USA and Landa Pressure Washing & Pioneer Clips Equipment.  Tim is certified in Carpet Cleaning, Wood Floor Care, Hard Floor Care Cleaning and Maintenance, Fire Restoration, Water Damage, Odor Removal and Upholstery Cleaning.
